Charles W. Harrison is nationally known for being one of the top trainers of Youthworkers in the United Methodist Church’s certified youth ministry program. He has been doing this for over 15 years.
January 8- 15, 2016 at Spark Youth Ministry Conference we are teaching the Ministry With Youth class of Certification (1 of 5 classes needed, other classes are: Bible, Theology, UMC Studies, Adolescent World).
Ministry With Youth class is the MOST PRACTICAL of the 5 classes. While theory always informs praxis, the Ministry With Youth class gets right to the point with 26 of the most basic units of “how to?” that help in building the foundations for deeper theory in later classes. Over the years many people have simply taken this class to build their Philosophy of Youth Ministry and organize their 7 Year Master Plan of what to teach and how to teach it.

Go beyond the class lectures with on-line tools to help with each of these areas of practical Youth Ministry plus a comprehensive digital textbook available through the help of Southwestern College and The Youthworker Movement. Get help from Youth Ministry gurus before/during/after class all year long. Be part of the Certification Community ALL YEAR long, year after year in a international Network of Youthworkers. You will not find these connections to the Youthworker Community and the kind of professors that stick with you for the long haul and are accessible to you long after the classes end in any other Certification program currently being offered.
Certification in Youth Ministry is taught as a graduate level class and designed by veteran professors with practical youth ministry experience. In addition to the 6 Professors several units will be taught by youth ministry practitioners who have previously been certified in Youth Ministry. This model of Certification has been successfully helping raise the standards of Youthwork for over 15 years. It is run by the good folks who designed it and who have benefitted from taking the classes taught in a way that meets Youthworkers wherever they are.
Typical students have had anywhere from a High School Diploma to a Master’s Degree, serve in every kind of church as volunteer, part-time, or full-time Youthworkers in every contextual setting you can imagine. Some are 25, some are 35, some are 50+.
Like a seminary class, this class requires that several books be read before arriving at SPARK as well as pre-class assignments for real grades. In class assignments and reading are also required. Post class project caps the final grade. Attendance is part of the final grade.
